An Uckfield-based business is planning a move to the Ashdown Business Park at Maresfield.
Lawson Commercial partner Chris Lawson said the sale of plot five – next to a plot currently being developed as a distribution centre for John Lewis, has been agreed – and solicitors instructed to proceed.
The site is 1.21 acres in size and was described originally as being suitable for a small to medium size manufacturing company.
Mr Lawson said there would need to be a minor variation of the planning on this plot but this was to be expected and they were pleased to agree terms. He would not reveal the name of the company.
He said the planning change would be in relation to the proportion of office to manufacturing space and the creation of a showroom. The floor area would remain the same, the proportion would be slightly different.
Mr Lawson added: “This does show there are people out there who want to move to Maresfield and if they are in the Uckfield area already and want more space then this is the only place to go.”
He said talks were going on with another company about plots six and seven at the Ashdown Business Park about the possibility of a 30,000 sq ft building being built there mainly for storage, distribution and some office.
And he added interest had been expressed by an hotel operator and by a fast food franchise in plots one, two and three on the site. Whether those talks would come to anything remained to be seen.
Mr Lawson was concerned that the focus of Wealden Council’s planning department was on housing at this stage and not on business and industrial premises which were in short supply. He said that if companies were unable to move within the district then they would eventually move out of it.
