Uckfield Chamber of Commerce president Fiona Monson is stepping down from the role as she launches a new business.
Insolvency practitioner Fiona is leaving Armida in Uckfield to open her own office at Haywards Heath next month.
She told a Chamber meeting on Tuesday that the role of president had been challenging at times but enjoyable.
A new president will be chosen by a ballot of members at a future meeting. Only those present will have a vote.
Fiona said she understood two out of three vice-presidents were considering standing in the election.
The three vice-presidents are Mark Arno of Carvills, Chris Lawson of Lawson Commercial, and Bernard Smith of Oldfield Smith.
Fiona said, after the Chamber meeting, that she was setting up her new business, Solvency Solutions LLP, to work alongside other professionals, notably accountants, solicitors and independent financial advisers as an add-on service to their core businesses.
They would be able to contact her, as a specialist, if they had clients with insolvency issues or who were looking to restructure or retire tax efficiently so that they could work together to find solutions.
Fiona also said she would be available to speak to interested groups about issues relating to insolvency and how to avoid it.
Her core recommendation for anybody fearing insolvency was to take advice early on because more options would be available then. “Don’t treat problems like a brown envelope in a drawer hoping they will go away. They will only get worse,” she warned.
Fiona said she offered free, confidential, meetings to help people and, of those who took advantage of her offer, very few found they needed to follow formal insolvency procedures. “They discover there are more options than they might have realised. And very often they can proceed on their own without needing to pay me any fees although many clients prefer me to take the pressure off them and instruct me to deal direct with their creditors.”
Another aspect of her work is to advice on solvent liquidation for those planning to retire or restructure their business who might find it more tax efficient to liquidate their company rather than strike it off the register of companies because they no longer have a use for it.
Solvency Solutions LLP will be located at Basepoint, Bridge Industrial Estate, Haywards Heath, from October 19, although Fiona will always be willing to visit clients at a time and place which suits them. In the meantime Fiona can be contacted on 07786 252145.
