Uckfield ‘castle’ playground plan gets green light

Luxford Field is another step closer to getting a new play area.

Councillors have approved the “people’s choice” for the design.

Designs for the area and equipment are along a “castle theme” and come from HAGS-SMP, a company which has built a number of new play areas in Uckfield in recent years, including the ones at Ridgewood and Hughes Way..

The choice was made on Monday (February 17) when members of the council’s environment and leisure committee received a report on a public exhibition to showcase three potential designs, public feedback and evaluation.

The other manufactures at the exhibition were Playdale Playgrounds and Wicksteed.

The current Luxford play area has been blighted by plans to redevelop Uckfield town centre which have now stalled and are unlikely to go ahead.

The Luxford Field and play area were within the development area, although the field would have been retained in any development, although not necessarily on its current configuration.

Once it became clear the redevelopment would not go ahead, the town council began planning and ‘saving’ for a new play area.

Councillors hope work will start as soon as possible, while they consider some more details.
