Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society processions sparkled tonight (September 3) in the rain.
Bonfire society members from across Sussex were joined by townspeople to put on yet another spectacular evening.
The first procession began from Grange Road and headed down the High Street to tour New Town before a sea of flaming torches walked up the High Street to Southview Drive.
On their return to the town centre, Bonfire prayers were said by Fr Christian Mitchell at the Church Street crossroads.
Fr Mitchell recalled the 350th anniversary of The Great Fire of London, mentioned the re-opening of the High Street to two-way traffic and prayed for people affected by fire and natural disasters, especially those suffering after the Italian earthquake.
Uckfield Bonfire Society’s usual banners were then lit, plus one marking The Great Fire of London.
The bonfire societies’ processions were followed by a number of floats and performing arts groups.
