Uckfield carer wins top prize

Staff at Candlelight Care in Uckfield are celebrating after one of their colleagues won a top prize at the Candlelight Care Awards 2019.

Lesley Boyes was announced as the winner of the ‘Dignity in Care’ Award, at an awards lunch at Long Sutton Golf Club last week. Nominations for the award were made by clients.

Lesley was part of a group of three finalists from Uckfield, including one double finalist. They competed with 26 other finalists across Candlelight Care’s five branches.

The other Uckfield nominees were Penny Johnson, for Senior Care Professional award, and Rachel Armstrong, for Specialist in Care, and Outstanding Care Professionals awards.

The Candlelight Care Awards were launched in 2017 to recognise and applaud the work carried out by the Candlelight Care staff every day of the year, whatever the weather.

More than 300 nominations were received for the six categories which included ‘Best Newcomer’, ‘Unsung Hero’, and the special ‘Dignity in Care’ award.

Mandy Head, Registered Manager at Candlelight Care in Uckfield, said, “Everyone at the Uckfield branch is delighted that we have a winner from our three finalists. Lesley’s achievement reflects on the entire team at Uckfield.”


Candlelight Care is a family-run company offering homecare and live-in care services in Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and East Sussex. Its head office is in Glastonbury, Somerset.

The company has been caring for people of all ages in their own homes for more than 30 years. It has been awarded the Investors in People Bronze standard for its commitment to developing its staff.
