Work starts on John Lewis distribution hub

Everything is now pointing to John Lewis opening a distribution hub on the outskirts of Maresfield.

Planning permission for signs has been sought from Wealden District Council and a formal ground-breaking event was held by Evander Properties, the specialist developer, and John Lewis.

The hub will serve John Lewis department stores at Kingston, Bluewater, and the partnership’s “at homes” in Croydon, Chichester, Tunbridge Wells and Horsham.

Vacher Gardens keeps on growing

Uckfield-based Vacher Gardens is continuing to expand four years after being founded by horticulturist Chris Vacher.

The company operates throughout East Sussex and employs 13 people, including Chris.

An outreach Post Office is settling into its new home at The Laughing Fish pub in Isfield where customers are able to enjoy a coffee, or even a pint, while doing their transactions.

The Post Office, which is staffed by members of the team at Ridgewood Post Office, moved to the pub earlier this year after the closure of Holly Gap Farm shop where it was previously based.

Chartered Surveyors Oldfield Smith and Co have taken on an apprentice, Jack Hopper,  who is looking forward to starting a building surveying course.

Oldfield Smith is an accredited Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors training practice and so is able to support Jack in his training.

New home for growing Team 4 Solutions

Uckfield-based Team 4 Solutions has moved to new offices in the Roller Mill in the town.

The business had outgrown its previous home opposite in Quarry House.

Team 4 now employs 17 people

Lawson Commercial offers 5,000 sq ft on Bellbrook

Premises which could be used short term for office space, light manufacturing or storage are available in Bell Lane, Uckfield.

Lawson Commercial are marketing 5,000 sq ft of ground floor office accommodation and partner Chris Lawson said: “This is a great opportunity to acquire some space on a short-term basis with a lease expiring in June 2017.”

He said there was a discounted rent of £6 per square foot which was less than you would normally expect to pay for good quality office space.

Three Peaks challenge for TR Fastenings team

Five employees from TR Fastenings are gearing up to scale the UK’s three highest mountains this July, in a bid to raise £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.

‘The TRekkers’, who work in the sales, purchasing and quality departments at the company’s headquarters in Uckfield, and are aged between 24 and 52, will attempt to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales within a 48-hour period.

This will involve 27 miles of hiking and a combined ascent of 3,000 metres.

Cancer Research business lunch

One of East Sussex’s most popular networking events takes place on June 15 at the East Sussex National, just outside Uckfield.

Coordinators of the annual summer lunch in aid of Cancer Research UK, organised by the charity’s Crowborough committee, have been overwhelmed with offers of support this year from businesses.

Many prizes have been donated, including ones from Wealden MP, Nus Ghani, and  Freedom Leisure.
