Ridgewood Rec, Uckfield, could become new home for Uckfield Bowls Club

Uckfield Bowls Club’s Ridgewood plans

An outline of how Uckfield Bowls Club could be accommodated at the Ridgewood recreation ground has been formulated.

The club, whose lease at its green next to Grants Hill House is not being extended by Wealden District Council, has sought help from the town council to find a new home.

Bowls club members have told councillors a feasibility study shows it is possible to build a six-rink green and deal with drainage issues.

Talks have also been held with Ridgewood Village Hall Committee to discuss the possibility of building an extension to the hall to be used solely as a clubhouse for the bowls club.

Members of the town council’s environment and leisure committee wish to see a site plan of how the recreation ground – which the council owns – would look if a bowls green is established and the village hall extended.

They want to know whether there would be room for other recreational use and a possible extension of the play area.

There are also concerns about whether the car park will be suitable.

*Wealden District Council has not specified future plans for the current bowls green but it known to be planning major improvements to its sheltered housing schemes in a £20 million programme over ten years. See story here
