Update on Tuesday, July 29: Ridgewood Village Hall might be extended to accommodate a bowls pavilion if plans for a bowling green on the neighbouring recreation ground go ahead.
Uckfield town councillors were told, on Monday night, that work is progressing on making provision for a bowling green.
A report to the general purposes committee said: “Should this be agreed, an extension to the village hall to accommodate a bowls pavilion could be required.”
There will be a public consultation on the proposals which are being put together by the Ridgewood Recreation Ground Working Group.
Our original story, on June 4, 2014: Plans for Uckfield Bowls Club to move to the Ridegewood Recreation Ground have been agreed “in principle” by the town council.
The club has to leave its current green at Grants Hill House, Oaklea Way, by 2019 because owner Wealden District Council is not willing to extend the lease.
Bowls club officials have been talking to town councillors and the Ridgewood Village Hall committee about a move and it looks as if it will now take place
Town councillors are satisfied that a six-rink green can be established on the site and that the village hall can be extended to provide facilities for bowlers.
Planning permission will be needed for both the green and extension.
Uckfield Bowls Club will need to raise money to pay for the work.
