Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society raised more than £2,300 so far through virtual bonfire celebrations on Saturday.
Members are delighted with the total which will be used to support local good causes and organisations.
The total was a fantastic achievement considering that last year about £3,700 was raised through collections during the day, at the children’s parade and during evening torchlight processions.
This time a video recalling past carnivals was shown on the society’s Facebook page followed by live streaming of bonfire prayers, lighting of traditional banners, and then a spectacular firework display.
Earlier in the day collectors wearing fancy dress visited town estates to appeal for donations, and a Crowdfunder page – which has so far raised nearly £900 – was set up. It will remain open until 9am on September 21.
