Uckfield Anderida 1st XI hold on for a draw against Iden

Uckfield Anderida’s 1st XI welcomed Iden on Saturday and after winning the toss invited them to bat on a wicket that looked good, but which the Uckfield skipper felt might have something in it for the opening bowlers.

It wasn’t long before this proved accurate, with Iden losing two wickets early on.

Mayes rebuilt along with George Avann (29), before Avann fell with an excellent delivery from Burns who bowled superbly all day and was unlucky to only claim three wickets.

Magnificent catch

Chris Brady backed him up in his two spells taking a five wicket haul with the visitors bowled out for 182, after a magnificent catch from Darren Spice removed Mayes for an excellent 70.

In reply Uckfield lost wickets early, but Morton (48), and Spice, rebuilt and took Uckfield into a commanding position.

Iden struck back, and, despite a spirited knock from Reed, left Uckfield looking vulnerable with three quick wickets.

Tight bowling

Needing not many runs but lacking wickets in hand, it was a tricky run, chase, and tight bowling at the death from Iden which meant that Mccallum and Brady held on for a draw in a game they probably should have won against the league leaders.

Meanwhile the 2nd XI won at Battle with ease, scoring 250 runs, and knocking the home side over for just 100.

Next week the 1st XI travel to Hellingly and the 2nd XI host Wadhurst at the Victoria Ground.
