Two thousand pounds needed to implement a 20mph speed limit in Church Street, Uckfield

A long-running battle to bring traffic calming and a 20mph speed limit to Church Street, Uckfield, is continuing.

The county council has agreed the scheme can go ahead but will not fund it.

County councillor Paul Sparks said the original requirement for external funding of £4,000 to implement the scheme had now been reduced to £2,000.

It had been accepted that changes to the HGV weight restriction signs would be paid by the county council.

He said: “However, there is still the challenge of raising this money so that this much needed speed restriction can be implemented but I am determined to find it.
