Trophies for young Uckfield dancers

Sparkle to rival that of the TV version of Strictly Come Dancing could be seen at a competition for schools on Saturday and Uckfield children were among those carrying away trophies.

Sophie Benyon (Year 4), Tamzin Woolgar (Year 4), Millie Waite (Year 3) and Joseph Roberts (Year 4) represented St Philip’s Primary School at the show which was held at Invicta Grammar School in Maidstone.

They danced the Rumba, Cha Cha Cha and the Social Foxtrot along with pupils from other schools in the South East.

Joseph and Sophie took first place for the Social Foxtrot and second place in the Rumba. Millie and Tamzin came second in the Social Foxtrot.

The children have been attending ballroom dance lessons every Tuesday from 3.30-4.30pm in the St Philip’s School Hall since October.

There will be no time for post-show blues as they will now be working towards a tea dance which will take place at the end of term – a great opportunity for parents and teachers to see the dances they have learnt.
