Uckfield commuters were sad to hear about the death last week of Diane Pryce who worked in the rail station ticket office.
Diane worked at the Southern office for nine years and, paying tribute to her, Uckfield Station Manager Donna Anderson said: “Di was a truly amazing lady. She will leave a huge hole in the Uckfield area and be missed by all who knew her.
“Di lived in Uckfield, as well as working at the station. She was always polite, helpful and had a smile for everyone. She was very well loved.”
We miss her
Commuters agreed. One said: “She was efficient and got on well with passengers. We all miss her.”
Another told Uckfield News: “She was the first person I spoke to when I moved to Uckfield. My movers came by lorry and she was working as I got off the train and bought my first season ticket.”
Comments shared on Twitter, after Diane lost her battle with cancer, included:
“Such a lovely lady and a great loss for all who knew her. Sympathies and prayers with her family.”
“So sad. She was such a lovely lady. She will be missed by many. Such a dry sense of humour with a wicked glint.”
“Very sad news, a lovely and helpful lady who I often enjoyed a conversation with.”
Helpful and friendly
“Many of the staff on the Uckfield Line are helpful and friendly, and it’s sad to hear one has been taken early.”
“Such a tragic loss of one of the nicest people you could ever know. She showed a mental strength that most of us could only dream of. It was a pleasure to have known and worked alongside her. Gone but never forgotten.”
