Tressler invests in the future through apprenticeship scheme

Tressler Coachwork, an accident repair bodyshop in Uckfield is recruiting a fourth young person to its team as the existing apprenticeship scheme proves successful.

The company, established in 1964, is based on the Bellbrook Estate, and has one trainee, 18-year-old Jamie Faben, who works in parts and invoicing, and two apprentices, Tom Luck, 17, and Lee Hazelden, 18, all of whom are progressing well.

Jamie, went to Ringmer Community College and lives in Uckfield. He has worked at Tressler for seven months and said he was enjoying his role far more than his previous jobs.

Tom, who lives in Buxted and went to Heathfield Community College, has also worked at Tressler for seven months. He is undertaking Mechanical Electrical and Trim (MET) apprenticeship, learning how to remove the damaged parts on vehicles and replace with new.

Lee, an apprentice panel beater has been working at Tressler for two years now and has another year to go to secure his Panel VCQ Level 3. Lee went to Uckfield Community Technology College and is pleased to be learning a trade within the motor industry.

Apprentice Paint Technician

Now Tressler is looking for an apprentice paint technician who will learn to prepare, prime and topcoat new and repaired panels.

The apprentice will attend day-release classes at Sussex Downs College in Eastbourne and the college will monitor their progress over a three-year VCQ Level 3 course. This is equivalent to IMI accreditation, a recognised qualification within the industry.

Accuracy and attention to detail is important. The apprentice will learn how to mix paint and use a spectrometer camera, which is used to match colour and is linked to a database of 25,000 colours.

Tressler co-director and co-owner Andy McGuckin said he started out in the industry as an apprentice himself and is pleased to be investing in the future through these young people.

Andy said: “We need someone who has an interest in the job, is motivated and is aspiring to do well.”
