Former Uckfield TR Fastenings employee Dean Reynolds will be a member of a Metropolitan Police team competing at the World Police Indoor Soccer Tournament in October.
PC Reynold’s mum, Kate Pocock, still works for the company and now TR has announced sponsorship of two Met teams at the tournament.
The five-a-side competition will be held at the Marveld Resort recreational park in Groenlo in the Netherlands, just 25 miles south of TR’s office in Oldenzaal.
The competition has evolved over the last 35 years to include firefighters, military personnel, and other individuals responsible for the safety of others. It attracts more than 200 teams from 54 countries from all over the world.
TR is paying for match kits for teams from the Met’s Sutton Branch who are competing for the eighth consecutive year.
They are entering two categories, the men’s team, and the men’s over 45s team. Each team will compete in 16-minute games, firstly in a group stage, then in knockout rounds before the finals.
Dean, who will compete in the men’s team, worked at TR in Uckfield from 2013-2014 and his mother Kate Pocock is a business development manager there.
While at TR Dean played for the company’s own five-a-side team and is currently looking to organise a friendly between his current and past teams as a warm up to the tournament, in order to try out the new kits.
Dean said: “This will be the third year I’ve taken part in the tournament, and I’m really looking forward to it. The teams are very competitive, but there’s also a lot of good-humoured camaraderie, and a great atmosphere throughout the event.
“Many of the police teams bring their cars and equipment with them to put on display at the resort, and it’s a great insight into how other forces throughout the world operate.”
Mark Belton, CEO of TR Fastenings’ parent company Trifast PLC said: “We are very proud to be associating the TR Fastenings name with this fantastic international tournament.
“The Sutton police teams are really dedicated to their football and to the community ethos behind this competition and we wish them all the best next October.
“It’s also great to have one of our ‘own’ in the team – we will be cheering Dean, and his team mates, on in their new kits.”
