Uckfield’s first town council-appointed town crier has the presence and voice to carry out the job.
At 6ft 6ins tall he has a commanding figure – and has a voice to match.
His appointment was announced on Monday (April 9) at a meeting of the full council.

He says the loud voice is a result of years in playing football as a goalkeeper where he has to (try) and command his defenders and scare the opposition.
His last public role before being thrust into the limelight was as the White Rabbit at Ridgewood Village Hall’s Easter egg hunt.
Ian’s wife, Karen, is the hall chairman, and he is a willing helper in the committee’s fund-raising activities.
He has a window cleaning business and helps Brighter Uckfield clean some of the towns street signs, although cannot go on to the by-pass.
“It doesn’t take five seconds to do and it is just nice to do something,” he commented.
Ian said it was a great honour to be made town crier and admitted he was going to thoroughly enjoy the role.
But what does he sound like?
