New manager at children’s hospice charity shop

Meet the new manager of the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice charity shop in Uckfield.

Fizz Dean, who has 12 years experience working with different charities, joined three weeks ago.

She is looking forward to building up the shop in Uckfield High Street and she has already launched a Premier Collection rail to make designer clothes stand out. She plans to display better quality clothing at lower prices, and will also be stocking bric-a-brac, books and music.

Kilnwood Studio celebrates its first birthday

Kilnwood Studio is celebrating its first birthday and to mark the occasion has had the outside of the shop painted.

A competition was run on Facebook too for people to like and share a birthday post. Diane McIntosh won a £15 painting session.

People are now arriving with lists of pottery they would like to paint for Christmas presents. The choice includes baubles, plates, mugs, animals, fairytale characters … something for everyone.

Check out the handpainted tiles in the shop window, see below. All have been painted by family members for the mother of shop owner Jane DeVay who is having a new kitchen and plans to include the tiles in the design.

Pre-owned jewellery now available at W E Clark & Son

Have you spotted that pre-owned jewellery is now available at W E Clark & Son? This means that they are also looking for unusual items of jewellery to buy so if you have gold chains, gemstones, quirky or vintage pieces they would like to hear from you.

Manager Charlotte Roake says you are also able to part exchange jewellery you are unlikely to ever wear again for new jewellery from their window.

New on the menu at Hartfields

New mains on the menu at Hartfields Coffee and Kitchen include:

  • Ginger, Garlic, Chilli and Soy Marinated Tofu Stir Fry, with Asian vegetables cashew nuts and rice noodles. You can add chicken too.
  • Smoked Mackerel Risotto with lemon, dill, peas, and crispy leeks
  • Slow Cooked Venison Ragu with local greens and pappardelle pasta.

New burgers include:

  • Barbecue Burger, 100% chuck steak, smoked cheese, Cos, barbecue mayo, and onion rings
  • Lemon Chicken Breast, with corriander, Cos, cucumber, and lemon mayo

The latest specials menu includes:

Light bites of Broccoli and Brie Croquettes, with tomato and pepper relish, and Lemon and Herb Panko Squid, with garlic Aioli dip.

Mains of Olive Tapenade and Buffalo Mozzarella Wrap with cherry tomatoes, fresh peppers and rocket; Local Sausages and Streaky Bacon Ciabatta Melt, red onion, smoked local cheese, and American mustard; and Lime and Coriander Chicken Flatbread, mango chutney, Asian salad, creme fraiche on warm flat bread.

Christmas arrives at Sew n Sew for crafters

If you like to make your own Christmas cards and decorations you will find that Sew n Sew is stocked up with everything you need.

They have new fat quarters of Christmas fabric for small craft projects – ideal to get children into sewing – and they are the ideal size for cushions.

Look out for two lovely mice made by Emma Hunnisett to show what is possible. The bodies of the creatures are crocheted and their clothes are knitted.

Prices fall on garden tractors

Prices are dropping rapidly on garden tractors at PP Estates. Business owner Philip Eves said two manufacturers are competing on price and already one of the tractors he stocks has dropped from £5,000 to £4,500, and now down to £4,000.

He is already offering the latest discounts to customers, so if you need a new mower it is worth calling in to chat to him.

All change at Green DIY

Displays are changing across the store at Green DIY to make way for new season’s stock.

This week should see Real Deals in place with products such as hand tools, power tools and torches given plenty of space.

There are signs of Christmas too with lighting from Premier including Supabrights with boxes ranging from 100 to 650 lights, both electrical and battery operated. The shop is also increasing its supply of batteries.

Green DIY is adding to its Addis range of household and cleaning products, including irons.

Fires and accessories are being given plenty of space too as temperatures begin to drop and people start thinking about heating their homes again.

Wallflowers and spring bulbs available at Staverton Nursery

Wallflowers and spring bulbs are now available ready for planting at Staverton Nursery.

The nursery is also gearing up for Christmas and Rachel, their florist, is running wreath-making workshops on the dates below.

You will learn how to make a moss-based, mixed greenery wreath, with a choice of natural decorations including cinnamon sticks, dried citrus slices, apples and pine cones, with ribbons, raffia, and other finishing touches.

Your finished wreath will be ready to take home and hang on the door.

PipeDreams prepares to switch from surf to snow

PipeDreams the Uckfield snow, surf and skate shop is preparing for a seasonal change, moving from summer through autumn to winter stock.

Autumn stock is on display now and more is arriving along with everthing needed to complete a switch to being a snow store.

The are still backpacks available for youngsters, and there are some winter woolies from last season in a sale, with 50% off some items.
