Three-way traffic lights are to be set up at the bottom of Uckfield High Street as new electricity and water supplies are connected to Bridge Cottage.
The electricity supply is within the pavement along River Way opposite the cottage and UK Power Networks will have to dig across the main road road to install a new cable.
Connecting the water supply should not be as disruptive as there is a stop cock in the pavement outside Bridge Cottage.
The time chosen for the electricity works is from Saturday, October 24, to Monday, October 26, with the connection being made on Tuesday, October 27. It is expected that it will take another couple of days after that to resurface the trench.
Some of the new paving slabs will have to be lifted on the route into the building and to disconnect old cables in that area.
At the same time works will take place to install a new water supply. The connection will be from a stop cock in the pavement outside Bridge Cottage. This is expected to be less disruptive than connecting the electricity supply but some of the new paving will be lifted to enable it to take place.
Uckfield and District Preservation Society said it was possible that both organisations would make temporary patches with Tarmac but the paving reinstatement team would come back to make good the disturbed paving.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience during the execution of this work but hope that you will understand,” said the society in a press release.
