There are to be three services to say farewell to the late Canon Martin Onions, rector of Holy Cross Church.
Two will be for family and close friends but then on Friday, June 26, there will be a Eucharist of Requiem and Thanksgiving for Father Martin’s life and ministry, at Holy Cross Church, at 2.30pm.
The Bishop of Chichester will preside and Bishop Nicholas will preach.
Two earlier services will be held the week beginning Monday, June 8. Father Martin will be received into Church and a requiem will be celebrated. The following day a funeral service will take place at Eastbourne Crematorium.
Father Martin’s widow, Gill, and family have requested that these services are for family and close friends only.
The services were announced on the Diocese of Chichester website today.
The announcement said, in relation to the service on Friday, June 26:
“All of Fr Martin’s ministry has been in this diocese, and, in addition to the parishes he served in a lay capacity, since ordination he has served five parishes and been involved at many levels in diocesan life.
“All who would like to bid farewell to Fr Martin liturgically and in a spirit of thanksgiving are invited to this service at Holy Cross, Uckfield.”
