Three shortlisted to use Victoria sports ground pavilion, Uckfield

A new tenant for the upstairs of the sports pavilion at the Uckfield Victoria Pleasure Ground could be in place within weeks.

Town councillors have drawn up a shortlist of three who they hope to meet within the next few days to discuss their plans.

Cllr John Carvey, chairman of the council’s general purposes committee, said the aim was to get a new lessee in place as soon as possible.

He said the council was pleased at the level of interest shown in taking over the premises.

Initially six people expressed an interest and that number was whittled down to three at a meeting on Monday.

Cllr Carvey said: “The interest we have had signals this is a vibrant town and community. If you were a dying town you would not get the interest we have had.”

The football club is now working closely with the cricket club over the use of the downstairs area of the pavilion.
