Tesco has responded to a request for a comment from Uckfield News about a row over a planning application for a dry cleaning and shoe repair kiosk outside their store.
We reported details about the planning application – a joint venture between Tesco and Timpson – last week and how independent businesses had objected because they feared for their livelihoods if the plan went ahead.
Then on Friday we told how the business owners were grateful to townspeople for rallying to support them by also objecting to the proposal.
We spoke to the Tesco press office about the story and sent a link to it so they could see the level of concern and asked for a comment.
A Tesco spokesperson responded saying: “In order to offer our customers a wider range of services, we have submitted a planning application to allow the opening of a Timpson Pod at our Uckfield Superstore.”
Uckfield Town Council’s plans committee is due to discuss the planning application tonight, but the final decision on whether it is approved lies with Wealden District Council.
