A major development at Temple Grove School, near Uckfield, is on course to get planning permission this week.
The work includes alterations to the building, demolition of extensions and new construction. Fourteen apartments would be created at Herons Ghyll.
Wealden councillors are told in a report – to be considered on Thursday at the council’s plans committee (north):
“The removal of the modern additions, alterations and the subsequent conversion of the house into 14 apartments will safeguard the long term future of this Grade II Listed Building which was originally constructed as a dwelling.
“The conversion of the building will also allow the restoration of the important formal gardens and informal parkland forming the setting of the listed building, which lies within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and contains important wildlife habitats and ancient woodland.”
Members are also told: “This present application relates to the conversion of the main house into 14 apartments and the creation of an underground car park with tennis court over and is an amendment to previous planning permissions for fundamentally similar works.
“Works to convert the house into apartments is substantially completed and the application (part retrospective) seeks to regularise works not part of the previous approvals and, in some cases, to rectify inappropriate works to the listed building.
“The underground car park was also not constructed in accordance with the previous approval and the submissions reflect the works as constructed.”
