Teachers’ strike expected to hit Uckfield area schools

Story updated on Thursday, July 10, at 8am:  More schools have been added to the list of those affected by the teachers strike which takes place today.

Our original story: Schools in and around Uckfield are expecting to be affected tomorrow (Thursday, July 10) by a strike involving members of the National Union of Teachers.

Notifications are being sent out by East Sussex County Council about the schools which will be hit.

They include:

Uckfield Community Technology College: Open as normal for Sixth Formers but closed for Years 7 to 10.

Buxted Primary: Partly closed.

Framfield Primary: Open to children in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 only.

Manor Primary: The following classes are closed: FSB, 1E, 3OL, 5AW. All other classes are open and the action will not affect the Year 6 performance this evening.

St Philip’s Catholic Primary: Closed.

As notifications are received we will update this story.

The National Union of Teachers gives five reasons to strike on it’s website. They include removing excessive workload and bureaucracy, ending performance related pay for teachers, reversing pension changes and making sure there are enough teachers.
