Superhero scarecrows go on display in Uckfield

Update on Thursday, June 11: Winner of the scarecrows competition was Baldwins Travel.

Our original story: Superhero scarecrows go on display in Uckfield today and will be brought together on the Luxford Field on Sunday when Uckfield Lions hold their annual big fun day.

They have been made by households and youth groups and members of the public will be able to choose and vote for their favourite two.

Rules of the competition run by Uckfield Lions were that the scarecrows be built to a superhero theme, must be between five and six feet in height and clearly visible from the public highway.

If you would like to see them in advance of the fun day they can be seen from 9am until 7pm from today until Saturday at:

  • 1 The Potteries, Ridgewood
  • Numbers 7, 12 and 14 Farriers Way, Uckfield
  • Thornbury, Hempstead Road

    Superman ready to take off.

  • 3 The Drive
  • Numbers 35 and 139 Rocks Park Road
  • Numbers 5 and 37 London Road.

Shops and businesses are also entering into the spirit of the competition which was organised by the Lions to help boost funds.

Scarecrows will be on show in their windows and five Lions club members will judge them. Each Lion will vote for a winner and the business with the most votes wins.

The Lions Fun Day begins on Sunday at 12.30pm and attractions will include performances from Universal Dance, a bouncy castle, a fire engine, Police CCTV van, Jimmy the Juggling Jester, judo demonstrations, music from Uckfield Performance Ensemble and Rebel Flag and stalls and side shows.

On Saturday from 9am to 1pm the Lions will be offering free diabetes testing at 170 High Street, Uckfield, (opposite Pizza Express). They say it will take just five minutes to check your health.
