Still time to nominate people for 21 Uckfield community awards

There is still time to nominate people for community awards being organised to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the Uckfield Volunteer and Information Centre.

Twenty-one awards are to be presented to people nominated for doing more for their organisation, or for their neighbour or community, than would normally be expected of them.

Acting manager of the centre Sheila Charlesworth is asking for final nominations within the next few days so that those people put forward can be invited to a community lunch on Friday, June 22, when presentations will be made.

At the same meeting a 21st birthday cake will be cut to mark the special anniversary of the centre which was originally set up as the Uckfield and District Volunteer Bureau in 1991 but gained its independence over the years.

It now covers local information as well as volunteering issues and so a few years ago became the Uckfield Volunteer and Information Centre.

The centre is based at 79 High Street, Uckfield, and is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm.
