Karen Thorne on stage at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

Standing ovation for Karen Thorne in dance challenge

Accountant Karen Thorne earned a standing ovation last weekend when she performed a dance routine to Dolly Parton’s 9-5.

Karen, who runs the finance department at C J Thorne civil engineers in Uckfield, and her partner Stuart Dawes from Brighton Academy, took to the stage at a Midsummer Ball – A Night of Nashville at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

The pair were among four acts representing different charities who sang and danced in a competition. They just missed out on the top spot to Charman and Alison, who represented Action Medical Research.

Karen and Stuart were raising funds for Chailey Heritage and while the final figure of the total raised on the night is still awaited Karen herself raised nearly £5,700 and you can still boost the total on her fund-raising page here.

Everybody at C J Thorne was proud of Karen who spent weeks in training to learn the dance routine. She was first on stage and wowed the 500-strong audience with lifts, cartwheels and amazing footwork.

Karen said: “Being the first act on stage was a bit scare, but once I was out there, I had so much fun. Stuart and his team of dancers were exceptional and I could not have done any of this without them. It will be a memory I will cherish forever.

“I would like to thank everyone for all their support and their donations which will be invaluable to the charities to continue their work. Thank you also to Chailey Heritage for giving me the opportunity to dance on stage again.”

Karen started dancing when she was three but last appeared on stage when she was 15. Several decades have passed since then but her talent shone through again on Saturday.
