Hundreds of bundles of asparagus have been delivered to NHS staff thanks to South Brockwells Farm at Little Horsted and their generous customers.
A Buy a Bundle scheme was launched after a self-isolating couple from Isfield, who have a weekly food box delivery, asked if some asparagus could be delivered to Uckfield Hospital.
Mr and Mrs Millar made a generous donation, South Brockwells Farm added 25%, and the scheme was started.
Since then every time customers Buy a Bundle for the NHS the farm adds 25%.
Now deliveries have been made to Uckfield Hospital, Sussex County Hospital, Brighton; Princess Royal, Haywards Heath, and Martlets Hospice, Hove.
Sarah Robinson, who runs the farm, which is just off the A26 at TN22 5QS – just follow the signs – with her sister Chrissy Wells, and brother-in-law Arron Wells, told Uckfield News: “The scheme has been really well received by the hospitals and customers alike and we have delivered to each of the sites with a note from our customers saying thank you.”
The end of the asparagus season is fast approaching and normally the seasonal farm shop at South Brockwells would close until the autumn when it sells oven ready game but this year the family has decided to bridge the gap.
The farm shop will remain open offering home-grown produce and carefully selected other locally produced goods.
