Barriers back up in Uckfield High Street as a water leak is repaired.

Slab lifted to repair water leak in Uckfield High Street

There was a collective sigh, accompanied by head-shaking, in Uckfield this week when almost immediately after workmen pulled out of town, having finished pavement improvements, a hole was opened up between the Riverside Fish Bar and The Lounge.

Manager of the highway improvement project Matthew Reid, from East Sussex County Council, said yesterday that a water leak was being repaired. He had been assured the work previously done on the pavement had nothing to do with the leak.
