Signs that John Lewis is on its way to Uckfield area

John Lewis is planning the finishing touches to its development at Maresfield on the outskirts of Uckfield.

Planning permission is being sought from Wealden District Council for directional signage.

The company is establishing a distribution warehouse at the Ashdown Business Park, off the A272 Batts Bridge Road.

It is expected to open in the autumn.

At the time the move was announced, late last year, commerical property agent, Chris Lawson, of Lawson Commercial, said it was the biggest commercial property deal in Uckfield in the last 25 years.

The whole site, near to the East Sussex Fire and Rescue training centre and the recyling centre, is being developed for business use.

John Lewis is the first name to announce that it is moving to the site.

The land was once part of the Maresfield Army camp.

*In the 1970s there was a planning application for housing, a sports complex, motel and touring caravan site which was never determined.
