Shelves were being stocked at Cheese Etc in Uckfield High Street yesterday ready for the new shop to open on Monday (July 11).
About £3,000 worth of cheese has arrived along with a wide range of charcuterie (cold meats), chutneys, jams and more unusual products too, including fruit wood chips in different flavours for smoking your own cheese, fish and meat.
Apple on its own or apple, cherry and orange, hickory, and lemon are among the flavours and they can be used in electric smokers also for sale at Cheese Etc.
Sourcing local produce has been a priority for shop owners Martin Sergison and Sharon Douglas and already on the shelves yesterday were jams, chutneys and pickles from Cranbrook and Ardingly, honey from Brighton, and Pinch seasonings also from Brighton.
In addition there were oils from Italy and Spain and one or two favourites brought in by the couple from Somerset where they previously ran a shop called The Big Cheese.
You’ll find glass gifts too from GiftGlass in Somerset where bottles are melted down to make clocks, cheese boards and platters – or are filled with fairy lights which when switched on can either flash or be still.
Owners Martin Sergison and Sharon Douglas are planning a party tonight to thank all the people who have helped with the project, including suppliers and tradespeople, and other special guests who, they hope, will include Uckfield Mayor Cllr Louise Eastwood.
They are looking forward to their future in Uckfield and to welcoming shoppers at 168 High Street from Monday.
