Sheep to return to West Park nature reserve

Sheep will return to West Park Local Nature Reserve this week with a new area designated for them too.

They will be contained in areas protected by electric fencing but residents and dog walkers will be able to use other areas as usual and access will be maintained around the fencing.

Uckfield Town Council says there are significant benefits brought by grazing sheep including maintaining the natural habitat, grazing out more dominant plants, including bracken, and, as a consequence, encouraging more wild flowers.

Ranger Geoff Pollard said: “Without the sheep grazing the area each year we would face a much bigger challenge to keep the nature reserve in good condition for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike.
