A season of Shakespeare launches at The Picture House, Uckfield, on Saturday to mark 400 years since the death of the man regarded as the greatest writer in the English language.
Two screens at the cinema will be devoted to a live event, introduced by David Tennant, from Stratford-upon-Avon on Saturday night.
Star-studded show
The star-studded show – Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Joseph Fiennes are a few of those taking part – will celebrate Shakespeare’s plays and their enduring influence on music, dance, opera, musical theatre and comedy and features exclusive cinema-only content.
There will also be a screening of ‘Bill’, a family adventure-comedy film from the principal performers behind the children’s TV series Horrible Histories, at Saturday Morning Movies.
The Globe
Also to come are three performances from The Globe, Measure for Measure on May 16, Merchant of Venice on June 22 and Richard II on July 18.
There are more live screenings of performances from the Royal Shakespeare Company of Hamlet on June 8, Cymbeline on September 28, and King Lear on October 12.
Taming of the Shrew from Stratford Festival will be screened on August 8 and The Adventures of Pericles, also from the festival will be screened on August 30, and a Branagh Theatre Live production of Romeo and Juliet will be screened on July 7 and 11 and on August 22.
