Sixteen members of staff, past and present, from Bonners Primary School, Maresfield, will be taking part in the MoonWalk in London on Saturday.
They will be raising funds for Cancer Research in memory of their colleague and friend Joanne Hewitt.
Jo worked at Bonners as a teaching assistant and lost her fight with breast cancer in January this year.
She knew all about fund-raising under way for this year’s MoonWalk and also for a Charity Gala Dinner and Auction due to take place in June.
After children at the school heard about plans for the MoonWalk they asked if they could take part and now there are plans under way for them to have their own Mini MoonWalk around the school grounds.
Tina will be tackling the full course of 26.2 miles while the others aim to complete 15 miles.
The Charity Gala Dinner and Auction will take place at East Sussex National Hotel on Saturday, June 29.
The evening will begin with a Fizz Reception, and be followed by a three-course meal, disco, table magician, and an auction.
Items donated for the auction include a holiday to Malta, Rolls Royce chauffeured shopping experience, tickets to Goodwood Festival of Speed and much more.
An auction website can be found here.
Also in the auction will be children’s books signed and donated by well-known authors.
Bonners teacher Tina Gomez-Sergeant has been writing to them asking them for contributions and she has been pleased to receive them from authors including Julia Donaldson, Jacqueline Wilson, Claire Freedman, Anne Fine, Michelle Magorian, Michael Morpurgo, Eoin Colfer, David Walliams, Dermot O’Leary and Axel Scheffler.
Tina and Bonners office manager Toni Birkbeck are working hard to organise the gala evening.
If you would like to sponsor any part of the event, or to find out more details please email Toni at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tickets, £45 each, and tables of ten can be reserved here.
The proceeds of ticket sales will go to Jo’s chosen charity Cancer Research and, as also agreed by Jo, auction proceeds will be split between Cancer Research and Bonners Primary School for a new school library in Jo’s name.
Two of the signatures in books donated by well-known authors for auction at the charity gala night, being organised by Bonners Primary School staff, can be seen below.
