Safety fears delay opening of Uckfield play areas

Uckfield Town Council is delaying the opening of play areas because of difficulties in implementing Covid-19 control measures.

The council says measures needed are currently “too prohibitive” in terms of time, frequency and resource. It had hoped to reopen the play areas on Saturday, July 4.

Mark Francis, the town council’s estates and facilities manager, said: “We appreciate that this may be disappointing news for some of our residents but the safety of everyone is paramount and uppermost in our minds.

“We will be reviewing this decision in two weeks time as more safety guidance becomes available from the UK Government.

“In the meantime, we would ask parents and children not to attempt to use the play areas during this time and to be assured that as soon as we can ensure their safety we will re-open them for use.”

Work is due to begin soon on upgrading Luxford Field play area. This will remain closed until the work is finished.
