The search is on for two people who will play a key role in helping keep children safe in East Sussex.
The East Sussex Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) wants to recruit two new lay members to its board who will help build closer ties with community groups.
The LSCB is responsible for overseeing how agencies work together to protect children and it has members from various organisations including East Sussex County Council, Sussex Police, the Probation Service, the NHS, the district and borough councils and local community and voluntary groups.
The independent chair, Cathie Pattison said: “We would like to hear from anyone who feels they could make a contribution to this very important work. Most of the members of the board come from organisations that are working with children or involved in child protection, so the lay members bring a different perspective and a challenge to our work.”
The new lay members would need to attend meetings in Eastbourne every three months and it would be helpful if they have links with local community organisations but otherwise, the criteria are simple, Mrs Pattison added.
“Of course what we are looking for are people who share our commitment to doing everything we can to ensure children in East Sussex are protected and safe from harm. They must also have the confidence to work with and, where appropriate, challenge professionals in the way they work.”
The LSCB values equality and diversity and will welcome applications from anyone in the community who shares its commitment.
The role is unpaid but lay members do have their travel and subsistence reimbursed.
The appointments last for two years and people who have been employed by one of the agencies represented on the LSCB in the past two years are not eligible.
The closing date for applications is Thursday, April 26. The posts also require an enhanced CRB check.
Anyone who would like to know more or wants information on how to apply should contact the LSCB business manager, Marion Rajan on 01273 481544 or email email@example.com.
