Allan appointed chair of construction group

Allan Curtis, director of Uckfield-based Design & Display Structures, has been appointed chair of the Composites UK Construction Sector Group.

He has more than 30 years experience in the construction industry and will lead the organisation as it encourages continuous growth and development of the industry.

New use plan for industrial land

Four semi-detached homes could be built on the Squires Farm Industrial Estate, at Palehouse Common, if a planning application before Wealden Council is approved.

Five homes have already been built in the same area.

Land at the north end of the Squires Farm Industrial Estate, where five new homes were built after a planning application was approved in 2015. A plan has been submitted now for four semi-detached homes on what is currently hard standing to the left of a field enclosed by hedging.

Change of business type for Office Village

A psychologist has applied for planning permission to see clients on a one-to-one basis in premises at The Office Village, behind Waitrose, in Uckfield.

At the moment the property is designated for business use and the application is to change that to non-residential institutions and assembly/leisure use.

20% discount offered on mindfulness course

A 20% discount is being offered on a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Course which starts in Uckfield on Tuesday.

To take advantage of the discount the eight-week course must be booked before Sunday, January 12.

The Grove Farmhouse Cafe, at Blackboys, is always looking for new ways of making customers feel welcome and their latest initiative is to set up a Happy to Chat table.

Every Thursday this table is set aside for people who would like to be sociable and pass the time of day with others who would enjoy the company.

Chris Dowling appointed director of Association of Business Mentors

Business consultant and mentor Chris Dowling has been appointed a director of the Association of Business Mentors (ABM).

His role will be promoting the organisation in the South East of England and aiming to connect with partners seeking collaborative working.

Game tasting day coming up at South Brockwells Farm

A game tasting day is coming up at South Brockwells Farm next weekend on Saturday, January 18.

The game bird season finishes at the end of the month and so the family business is hoping customers old and new will join them in their shop to try out some favourite dishes and stock up.

The farm has been busy over the festive season with new kids welcomed to the world.

Theirs has been a story of continuous growth from being a two-lorry haulage firm to a company employing more than 120 people.
