Roald Dahl characters flock to Manor Primary School, Uckfield

Roald Dahl characters flocked into Manor Primary School in Uckfield yesterday as pupils celebrated World Book Day.

Just a few of the Roald Dahl characters who flocked to Manor Primary School to celebrate World Book Day today.

The theme for a week of activity at the school has been The BFG, Roald Dahl’s story about a big friendly giant who eats snozzcumbers and drinks frobscottle.

Children have had the chance to design their own weird vegetables – such as moldmato, blickyoot and fizzbubble and dream up drinks with amazing properties such as unifly which can help you fly, and swimmingaid which helps you breathe in water.

But today the children, and staff, had the chance to dress as their favourite characters from their favourite Roald Dahl book and you can see some of the choices they made in our picture above which includes the Ladybird from James and the Giant Peach, George’s Grandma from George’s Marvellous Medicine, Matilda from Matilda, Mrs Fox from Fantastic Mr Fox, Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mike Teavee from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, an Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the BFG from The BFG.

The week’s activities were organised by Claire Waine, a teacher at Manor Primary School and English subject leader who said it was “tremendous fun” to incorporate The BFG into English and Maths lessons.

The children even had the chance to dance to music as a giant would or dream to gentle music.
