Uckfield Town Council is considering making available up to nearly £11,000 to support High Street promotional events in the run-up to Christmas and through next year’s roadworks.
Members of the council’s environment and leisure committee agreed last night (September 28) to recommend that “no more than” £800 be given to support the extended Christmas shopping event in December.
Councillors are also recommending spending no more than £5,000 to help support events between January and March and to recommend budgeting £5,000 for events from April onwards until the end of the works.
The recommendations will be considered by the council’s general purposes committee which will make the decision.
The proposals follow a request for support from the Chamber of Commerce and a report from clerk, Ashley Serpis on being prepared to support any events planned in the new year to ensure shoppers understood Uckfield was “open for business” during the roadworks. See earlier story here.
Councillors are also recommending the Chamber approach Wealden District Council for a grant.
