Road safety event gets Uckfield High Street roadworks assurances

Assurances have been given that large vehicles taking part in Uckfield’s road safety day for schools in June will not be hindered by the High Street roadworks.

The annual event is held on the Luxford Field, writes Paul Watson.

Uckfield area schools are invited to take part. It is not open to the general public.

A report to town councillors said the “current major concern” was the safe and easy vehicular access to the Luxford Field during the roadworks.

Heavy display equipment

Many children come to the event by coach while large pieces of display equipment are moved in by road.

The report added: “Assurances have been given that it (the road safety event) has been built into the plan and access will be possible.”

The children’s poster competition will have a theme of Slow Down – Save a Life.

The winner will receive the Jim Molesworth Edwards trophy to be displayed at their school for the following year.

Instruction packs for local schools will be undertaken this month.

June 23 date for this year’s event

The safety day is promoted by Uckfield Town Council, which has put money aside for the event on June 23 on the Luxford Field.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue and local charities are being approached for additional funding.

An application to the Safer Sussex Community Fund is also to be considered.
