During Storm Dennis there was a flood alert – the lowest category of three warnings – for the River Uck at Uckfield, meaning flooding was possible.
During the same storm there was a flood warning at Buxted which meant flooding was expected and immediate action was required..

March 5, 2020: The height of the Uck at the Roller Mill reached 1.93m and spilled into Mill Lane. The flood gates in Waitrose car park were closed but the Environment Agency never raised its warning from a Flood Alert – the lowest category of three warnings – meaning flooding was possible, to Flood Warning which would have meant flooding was expected and immediate action required.
In December 2019 the river level upstream of Uckfield mill reached 1.793m. It reached 2.961m in Buxted.
In February 2020 during storms Ciara and Dennis the highest level the river reached upstream of Uckfield mill was 1.50m. In Buxted it was 2.80m.
Look at the pipe crossing the River Uck which can be seen from the bridge near Uckfield Railway Station to get an idea of the water level.
In December 2019 the pipe was covered. In February 2020 it remained in sight.
