Ridgewood Rise, Uckfield, site – for sale?

Ridgewood Rise, the site of a former old people’s home in Uckfield, may be sold by the county council.

It is being recommended for disposal and a decision is set to be taken next week.

The site was in the spotlight on UckfieldNews.com last week when we reported concerns that it was left vacant at a time when the council was increasing its share of the council tax.

Now it is on the list for Cllr Rupert Simmons, the Lead Member for Resources, to determine whether it should be sold. Officers are recommending “disposal”.

Ridgewood Rise, in Highview Lane, was originally a home which housed 39 residential places and 16 day care spaces. In 2004 it was determined that the home was “ill-suited” for future requirements.

In 2009, planning permission was granted for the redevelopment of the land as a 48-bed residential unit with consulting rooms and cafe.

As previously reported, attempts last year to sell the site for a residential home failed to attract a buyer.
