Resurfacing work begins on Uckfield by-pass this evening

Work is due to begin on re-surfacing the Uckfield by-pass tonight.

It will take place from 7pm until 7am, and every night for three weeks, between the Little Horsted roundabout and the Copwood roundabout.

Bell Farm Road is expected to be closed at its junction with the Copwood roundabout tonight and tomorrow night. There will be a diversion via Uckfield High Street,  Newtown and Lewes Road to the Little Horsted roundabout in both directions.

The road works are being carried out by East Sussex Highways to provide a stronger road surface which is expected to prevent water getting into the surfacing layers, the main cause for potholes.

The highways department says the road will remain open with a 10mph speed limit through the works area. There will also be a temporary lower speed limit of 30 mph on both the A22 and approaches to the A22 from the A26 at either side of the Little Horsted roundabout.
