Potholed Old Timbers Lane in Uckfield is edging nearer to getting a new surface.
The town council now has an offer to resurface the top part of the lane, which has no known owner, from the developer of the old convent site.
The builders are proposing to use the lower part of the lane as part of a vehicular route for the new residents but has offered to fill the potholes and put a tarmacadam surface on the top part.
If the town council wishes the lane, the only access to the Victoria Pleasure Ground, brought up to highways standard, it would cost a further £33,000.
Councillors will receive a further report before making a decision.
