Hughes Way play area which is set to be improved

Residents’ views sought on Hughes Way play area upgrade

Residents living near the Hughes Way play area in Uckfield have been surveyed on plans to upgrade the equipment.

The town council-owned site is next on its list for improvements with £50,000 set aside for the work in the next financial year’s budget, which begins in April.

A play equipment firm has visited the site and confirmed the scheme could proceed at this budgeted figure.

Further grant funding is also being sought by Church Coombe Community Association to support works to the play area to improve the ground and/or planting.

Representatives of the town council and community association have visited more than 200 homes to gain people’s views.

The properties were in:

  • Hughes Way;
  • North Row;
  • Manor Close;
  • Manor End;
  • Manor Way and small section of The Drive;
  • Small section of Norfolk Way/High Street.

Volunteers completed a total of 53 surveys during these two sessions, and delivered a copy of the survey through the door of properties where there was no answer.

As of Friday , March 3, a further 15 surveys had been collected, and volunteers will be returning to collect the remaining surveys over the next week.

Once a scheme has been formulated, the council must go out to tender to find a contractor before work can be scheduled.

Last year the town council improved the play area at Ridgewood and before than upgraded the facility at Hempstead Road.
