Opening of the new railway station car park in Uckfield has been put off until early August.
News of the delay came yesterday (July 7) from Network Rail which said the date had yet to be confirmed. It is hoping to have an official opening.
A spokesman for the company said: “We had hoped to open the car park sooner, but due to a number of issues surrounding the drainage of the access road, the opening was delayed.”
UckfieldNews.com reported in May that the opening was planned for mid July.
Originally the car park was due to be finished in the spring but soon after work started we reported that a gas main was proving to be the cause of delay.
More recently negotiations have taken place with the highways authority, East Sussex County Council,to adjust the levels of the access road to prevent flooding of the car park and the Station pub.
When completed the car park will have 174 space for cars and cycle storage too. It will be the first pay car park in Uckfield.
At the same time, the Luxford Field car park will have new time restrictions introduced to prevent most commuters from using the free spaces provided by Wealden District Council.
Many people living in the vicinity of the station fear even more commuters will park on side-streets in front of their homes.
