Update on Tuesday, April 19: Beacon lighting to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday will be at 8.30pm in Uckfield on Thursday, April 21.
From our original story on Wednesday, March 30: Town councillors who are organising the event at the Victoria Pleasure Ground are looking some someone who will be 90 on or around the 21st.
The Uckfield ceremony will be part of the national beacon lighting celebrations.
Uckfield Bonfire and Carnival Society’s help has enabled the lighting to go-ahead.
Cllr Diane Ward, Trust Independent, Uckfield Central, said huge thanks should be given to the society because without them it would have very difficult to light the beacon.
A second event will be held on Saturday, June 11, also at the Victoria ground.
It will be a celebration with local groups entertaining residents throughout the evening.
Environment and Leisure members present at the meeting:
Chair: Cllr Mick Dean, Trust Independent, New Town
Vice-chair: Cllr Helen Firth, Conservative, Central
Cllr Jacqueline Beckford, Liberal Democrat, Ridgewood
Cllr Keith Everett, Independent, Ridgewood
Cllr Donna French, Trust Independent, North
