An outreach Post Office is settling into its new home at The Laughing Fish pub in Isfield where customers are able to enjoy a coffee, or even a pint, while doing their transactions.
The Post Office, which is staffed by members of the team at Ridgewood Post Office, moved to the pub earlier this year after the closure of Holly Gap Farm shop where it was previously based.
Laughing Fish landlord Andy Brooks said he was pleased to be able to step in and accommodate the Post Office for the benefit of the community.
He opens up earlier on Thursdays now so that villagers can call in to do their business from 10am to noon.
Andy said: “We were already licensed from 10am although we didn’t open that early. The Post Office fits in very well and yes, people can even have a pint while here if that appeals.”
Postmaster Jon Gothard said Ridgewood Post Office staffs five outreach branches during the week and his team enjoy going into the community.
- Tuesday morning: The Nutley Arms, 10-noon
- Tuesday afternoon: High Hurstwood Village Hall, 2-4pm
- Thursday morning: The Laughing Fish, Isfield, 10-noon
- Friday morning: Chelwood Gate Village Hall, 10-noon
- Friday afternoon: Danehill Social Club 2.30-4.30pm.
Jon said: “Andy has always banked with us so we know when we come to Isfield that we will have at least one customer.”
He added that a coffee club runs alongside the outreach Post Office at The Nutley Arms and there is scope for that to happen at The Laughing Fish if villagers wanted to build a social occasion around their visits.
