Uckfield Community Technology College has partnered with Skillforce, local primary schools and TR Fastenings to launch The Prince William Award.
It provides students with an opportunity to build and develop a variety of life skills.
The weekly activities are delivered by a Skillsforce instructor and include problem solving tasks and team building activities alongside accreditation in first aid and orienteering.
The college said in a statement: “The Prince William Award aims to provide those that take part with a unique programme of coaching to help establish the values and principles that they will take forward in their future endeavours.
“The group is made up of current and future students of the college and is part of a comprehensive transition programme which aims to ensure a smooth and successful start to secondary education.”
David Burren, a Deputy Principal at UCTC, added: “This is a fantastic initiative which is fully endorsed by Prince William.
“It provides an excellent opportunity for students to challenge themselves in developing a variety of personal skills and qualities that will stay with them for life.”
Shannon Turner, from Holy Cross Primary School, Uckfield, said: “The activities are really fun and it’s nice to be able to work in different group and make new friends.”
The programme, which runs for a year, was made possible by the sponsorship of TR Fastenings, which also works with the college on a range of careers initiatives.
