Popular caretaker Franco Barbarossa has retired after 15 years at Bonners Primary School, Maresfield.

Franco won the East Sussex Caretaker of the Year Award in 2013 and has also run a chess club for the children at the school for many years.

He was first on the school site in the morning and last to leave in the evening and headteacher Ewa Wilson said Bonners just wouldn’t be the same without him.

Safe

“Franco has always been there to make sure the school is safe and clean for all those who learn, play, work, and visit, Bonners School – no matter what the weather. No job has ever been too big or too small.”

On Thursday a virtual online tea was held for the school community in honour of Franco.

Memorable moments were shared, prayers, and poem, were read, and tributes paid.

Missed

Mrs Wilson added: “Franco will be truly missed, and we appreciate everything he has done for us over the years.

“Franco, you are a true celebrity, and will always be a part of the Bonners family.

“On behalf of all Bonners School Community, past and present, we wish Franco a very happy well-earned retirement.”
