Play area officially opened by Uckfield Town Mayor

Uckfield’s new £100,000 play area was officially opened on Saturday by town mayor, Ian Smith.

During a brief speech, Cllr Smith said he hoped local people would assist the town council in looking after the new facility.

He said: “I hope this new play facility will for a long time be the source of fun and laughter, joy and excitement and the start of many a new life-long friendship.

“I hope also that the local community will take great pride in the facility and work together with the council to ensure that it is kept in the best possible condition.”

Also at the ceremony were the chairman of the council’s general purposes committee, Cllr John Carvey; the chairman of the environment and leisure committee at the time the project was instigated, Cllr Alan Whittaker; vice-chairman of the finance sub committee, Cllr Mick Harker; the town clerk, Ashley Serpis; and the assistant town clerk, Christine Wheatley.
